Since I finally find myself with a bit more time on my hands, my reading list has expanded a bit. I actually will read just about any genre, but for some reason I've been on a non-fiction/history kick Here are a few of the books that I've been reading lately, and might recommend: Harry Potter JK Rowling Ok, with the release of the latest book (Half-Blood Prince), I've gone back and re-read the previous books. And -- just to add a bit of weirdness to the list, I'm reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in Irish Gaelic. Slowly. New History of the World , J.M. Robert This is an enormous history book -- and probably the most readable, enjoyable history book that I've ever found. Robert's style is engaging and very fluid. This is a far cry from the bland, boring history books I've been before. Instead of focusing on dates and dry chronologies, he focuses on the large, sweeping themes of civilization.. I'm also listening to the audiobook version at the same time -- 56 hours fills alot of drive time, and serves to re-inforce the information from the book and gives me a chance to go over the material again. Sex With Kings , Eleanor Herman Throughout history, kings and princes have had strong, intelligent, powerful women at their sides -- and these women were usually not their wives. Marriages between royals were arranged and often loveless matches, and the role of the Royal Mistress was filled by some of the most interesting women in history. Thie book is well written and very interesting, and definitely takes on a sensitive subject with a good sense of humor. All three are fun. |
