Courtyard of Amenophis III

The original part of the temple was built by Amenhotep III and dedicated to Amun, who Amenhotep claimed was his father. None of the original roof remains. THe rising water table (brought about by piping water into Luxor) has ruined the foundations and the courtyard is undergoing restoration.

The small courtyard of the Court of Amenophis was once the central point of the whole temple. The delicate papyrus-bundle columns surround a small birth house and a larger colonnaded courtyard lead to the santuaries.

Much of the huge colonnoade is in pieces, as thef oundation is being rebuilt. The two remaining sides have thin papyrus columns and huge, heavy architraves. The southern end of the colonnade melds into the great Hypostyle hall.
