plan of the friary

The friary was suppressed in 1541, although Kilconnell survived the Dissolution of the monsteries, and may not have left the friary until the eighteenth century. The lands were granted to Charles Calthorpe in 1616 by James I. There will still friars at the monastery in 1709, and a few remained until 1766. The Frrancisan site notes that the last friar -- who had been acting as local clergy -- didn't leave until 1801.
