18th Century mansion

Floors is th elargest inhabited mansion in Scotland, and it's hrad to see even traces of earlier castles incorpoated into the modern-ish mansion house. They are probably there, but it was built as a coiuntry house. it hs a large main block with two service wings, and is extremely symmetrical.

The current building dates from 1721, designed by Wiliam Adams for the 1st Duke of Roxburghe The current Duke and Duchess still live here.Forthe next century, it was a plain Georgian mansion house.

It has been enlarged and added to throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. The house was remodeled by William Playfair, who added domes and spires and decorative fripperty to the much-simpler Adams design.

A large walled garden, and extensive grounds surround the house.
