Corbridge Roman Town

Stanegate

The major Roman road here -- Stanegate-- predates Hadrian's wall, and the section that runs through Corbridge has been excavated down through several centures; as you walk down the road, you are walking back in time. The road sinks dramatically -- the latest parts are several feet higher than the earlier/older sections of road.

A "newer" section of Stanegate, see how high it is from ground level?
