Egypt: The World of the Pharaohs

If you like huge, colorful coffee-table books, this one is for you. This big volume covers the whole of the history of Egypt using many photographs and just enough historical background to give you an idea of the context of the art presented. While there are chapters on history, and rulers, and the role of priests, etc., I must admit that I bought this book for the pictures.

It's useful enough for a high-level overview of Egyptian history, and an introduction to the wonderful styles of art. It's certainly not meant to be read -- it's more of a browsing book with interesting tidbits to link the photos together.

A beautiful book, but pretty useless for travel. Looks nice on my bookshelf, though!
