Dynasty Notes

The 21st Dynasty saw the return of Egypt to the chaos and disruption of the Third Intermediate Period -- many groups of pharaohs ruled concurrently in the north, in the delta city of Tanis and Priests of Amun and local pharaohs ruled in Thebes.

The Tanis pharaohs are probably more legitimate than the HIgh Priests that took control in Thebes, beginning with the priest Herhor.

The chronology of the pharaohs in Tanis is usually understood to be:

Smendes
Amenemisu
Pinodjem I
Amenemope
Osorkon I "The Elder"
SIamun
Pinodjem II

The high priests (and later pharaohs) in Thebes include:

Herihor
Piankhi
Masahart
Djedkhonsefankh
Menkheperre
Iuput
Sheshonq II
