Hotel Rates

Here are the published rates from the hotels we stayed at (all prices are 2003). I have a real thing for "historic hotels" and will stay in them whenever possible -- even if they are old, creaky, and have tiny bathrooms. One of the real treats on this trip was to stay in the great old hotels -- The verandah of the Old Cataract Hotel overlooking the Nile is an experience unto itself.

Note that the Cataract and Winter Palace also have "New" Hotels. They are awful soviet-era boxes. Ugh. Cheaper, but ...ugh.

The prices here are in US dollars. Obviously, these are just rough estimates -- use any of the tools at right to get actual quotes. And, lest everyone freak out at the hotel rates, there are many, many reasonably priced hotels in Cairo and surrounding areas. Some are positively frightening, though, so check Rough Guide or Lonely Planet for good bets.
