Titulary
Conflict with Nubia and the Napatan kings seems to be the major theme of Psamtek IIs rule. He ruled only a short time, but during those few years he led an expedition against Nubia and during one of the battles is reputed to have captured some 4200 nubian soldiers, although it is not recorded whether or not he conquered the Nubian capitol. The end result of the battle is not documented in the stele. He did not build many monument on his own, he usurped existing monuments and added decorations and inscriptions, and replaced existing names with his, a common practice among the pharaohs. He died returning from Phoenicia and left his son, Apries, as king. |
