Dynasty Notes

The 11th Dynasty is usually split into two parts -- the first part still included in the First Intermediate Period, which included the pharaohs in Thebes, ruling over a divided Egypt. The entire 11th Dynasty lasted only 149 years, but the first century or so was embroiled in civil war, which fits in with the confusion of the Intermediate Period.

With the reign of Mentuhotep II, Egypt was once again united and the 11th Dynasty moved into the Middle Kingdom. The Middle Kingdom is a renaissance for Egypt, with prosperity and strong government.

With the government once again consolidated under a single, powerful pharaoh, the dynasty is once again fairly well documented. The traditional sequence of pharaohs is

Mentuhotep II
Mentuhotep III
Mentuhotep IV

Two additional kings seem to show up in some of the chronologies, but their sequence is uncertain:

Inyotef IV
Iyibre-Khent
Segerseni
