Titulary
There are no contemporary remains for a king called Neferkare, and the elements of his name are very common, so it is possible that the fragments and lists that show this king are actually referencing someone else. Neferkare is mentioned in the Saqqara and Turin king lists between Sened and Neferkaseker, and he is mentioned in Manetho as Nepherkheres. He is not mentioned in the Abydos king list at all -- and remember that none of these lists is contemporary -- most are over 1200 years after the fact. The omissions of Sened, Neferkare, and Neferkaseker from the Abydos list may be a political thing, since these kings may have ruled only the north. |
