History
Wegaf is usually placed as the first pharaoh of the 13th Dynasty.
Like most of the pharaohs of this period, he ruled for only a short
time -- a little over two years, according to the Turin canon.
He probably ruled from the current capital of Itj-tawy, and he and
about ten of his successors had relatively stable rules, prior to
the chaos of the later Second Intermediate Period.
Almost nothing remains to attest to Wegaf's rule. A single scarab
seal has been found and there are two stelae in Karnak and Nubia
with his name. A statue in the Egyptian Museuam in Cairo was recently
reevaluted and determined to probably be long to Wegaf.
